Minnesota Wild at Nashville Predators odds, picks and betting tips

The Minnesota Wild (3-6-0) and Nashville Predators (5-3-1) will square off Thursday night at 8 p.m. ET in Nashville. The Predators have won six straight against the Wild and eight straight at Bridgestone Arena. Here, we break down the Wild-Predators odds and lines, with NHL betting picks and tips.

Wild at Predators: Projected starting goalies

Alex Stalock vs. Pekka Rinne

Stalock draws a second straight start in place of the injured (and struggling) Devan Dubnyk. Stalock stopped 16-of-16 shots on goal in his last turn, a home start against the Edmonton Oilers Tuesday. He owns a .942 save percentage this season. Stalock logged an .899 SV% and 2.99 goals against average in 28 games a year ago.

Rinne has been outstanding in six contests this fall. He has registered a .963 SV% while going 5-0-1. That includes allowing two goals to Minnesota (24 SOG) on Oct. 3. Rinne logged a .906 SV% in two starts against the Wild a year ago.

Wild at Predators: By the numbers

  • Nashville is leading the NHL in shooting percentage with an overly robust 13.2% mark. No other team is higher than 11.6. A look at Corsi and some other possession indicators reveals Nashville’s offense should indeed be solid, but their 4.2 goals per game is unsustainable.
  • In special teams, both teams are near league-average on the power play (Minnesota is a click south of the NHL-average at 19.8%).
  • The Wild have the edge on the penalty kill. Nashville has been awful when opponents have an extra skaterthwarting just 69% of powe-play opportunities.
  • The Minnesota PP didn’t have many chances over the first few games of the season, but the Wild have had 22 opportunities over their last four games.
  • The Wild have struggled on the road, going 1-5. The Minnesota PP is just 2-of-23 (8.7%) away from home.
  • The Preds are 2-2 (-55% return on investment) this season when favored by -170 or more.
  • The Over has gone 8-1 over Nashville’s nine games this season.
  • Minnesota has played the tougher schedule of the two teams so far this season. In nine games, the Wild has played just one against a team currently under .500. And that team (Winnipeg Jets) is 5-6.

Wild at Predators: Odds, picks and betting tips

Odds courtesy of BetMGM; access USA TODAY Sports for a full list. Odds last updated at 1:30 p.m. ET.

Moneyline: MINNESOTA (+155) is a likable play; perhaps trying to leverage a lightning-in-a-bottle roll for Stalock and certainly speculating on some regression on both sides.

Spread : Minnesota +1.5 (-176) draws a layoff.

Over/Under : There looks to be some market pressure that could take this number (5.5) up a tick. This becomes an UNDER play for me at 6.
