How and when did Arthur's dad Ashley die in Emmerdale?
Ashley Thomas, who was played by John Middleton, left Emmerdale in April 2017 when he was killed off the soap, but the character’s death and absence is still having an affect on the fictional family he left behind in the Dales to this day.
Those who have been keeping up with the drama in the Dales will know that poor Archie Breckle (Kai Assi) has been terrorised by Arthur Thomas (Alfie Clarke) of late, as Laurel Thomas’ (Charlotte Bellamy) son struggles to come to terms with the loss of his dad and Jai’s presence in his mum’s life.
But how and when did Arthur’s dad Ashley die in Emmerdale?
How and when did Arthur’s dad Ashley die in Emmerdale?
Ashley Thomas, who joined the soap as the local vicar in December 1996, departed the soap on April 7 2017 when the character was killed off.
In 2015, Ashely was diagnosed with early onset vascular dementia and in 2016 the character was involved in a terrible car accident caused by Emma Barton (Gillian Kearney).
Following the accident, Ashley’s condition deteriorated and despite care from his wife, Laurel, he was admitted to a care home after forgetting who his family was.
In March 2017 the character was diagnosed with pneumonia and the Thomas family were given the tragic news that he did not have long left to live.
Ashley died peacefully at home with Laurel a month later, after 21 years on the soap, managing to remember who she was miraculously before his passing.
His children Gabby and Arthur were left devastated by the loss of their father – and fans too mourned the death of a long-serving Emmerdale icon.
Emmerdale is next on ITV at 7pm tonight.
