Girl, 5, who had stroke at play centre crowned Britain’s Happiest Child
A little girl who had a stroke at a soft play centre has been crowned Britain’s Happiest Child.
Freya Watson, five, won the award after amazing hospital staff with her positive attitude.
Her specialist teacher said she was “truly the most inspiring pupil I have ever worked with”.
Freya, from Hedon, near Hull, suffered an aneurysm in September.
Specialists at Leeds Children’s Hospital had never seen the condition in one so young.
Other winners at last night’s London awards included Longwood Primary, in Harlow, Essex, which topped the Happiest Primary School category.
Four years ago it was in special measures with 20 times the national rate of exclusions.
Now it is ranked as good with outstanding features.
Awards judge Leon Smith said: “I hope people will be inspired by all the incredible winners and nominees.”
