Illegal day care owner, 42, found passed out drunk with nine kids by crying child’s horrified grandma, police say – The Sun
A WOMAN accused by authorities of running an illegal daycare in her home was allegedly found drunk by a child's grandparent, reports claim.
42-year-old Julie Groteke's blood alcohol content was more than four times the legal limit to drive, prosecutors said in court Friday.
Groteke has been charged with nine counts of child endangerment and allegedly operated an unlicensed child care center in Wyoming, Ohio.
She was caring for nine children on October 24, according court documents first obtained by WLWT-TV.
The documents allege that, at some point that day, the grandmother of one of the children in Groteke's care came to the house but there was no answer at the door.
The woman alleged she could hear crying from children inside, and so she let herself in to discover Groteke unconscious on the couch in the living room.
"SHE'S PASSED OUT ON THE COUCH"
According to Local12.com, the woman dialed 911 and told dispatchers: “She’s passed out on the couch.”
“She’s breathing, but we can’t wake her up.”
“I’m here. Another parent is here, and then there’s lots of kids here.”
When officers from Wyoming Police Department arrived at the scene, there were allegedly nine children in the home – not including Groteke's biological children.
The 42-year-old was then taken to Bethesda North Hospital.
Prosecutors alleged in court on Friday that Groteke's blood alcohol content was .328.
The daycare has been shut down and, according to court documents, a child welfare investigation has been opened by officials with Hamilton County Job and Family Services.
Groteke is expected to face trial in December.
She was freed on a $45,000 bond – $5,000 for each child – having pleaded not guilty to all charges.
A judge also ordered Groteke not to have any contact with children other than her own.
