The last series of Outlander finished on a cliffhanger as Jamie Fraser (played by Sam Heughan) was given an order to kill his godfather Murtagh (Duncan Lacroix). We’ll have to wait a couple more months before we find out what happens next but are we going to see more time travel in the season five of the Starz and Amazon Prime show? One of the key cast members has spoken out about the possibility.
Will there be more time travel in Outlander season 5?
Outlander started off with Claire Randall (Caitriona Balfe), a British Army nurse in World War Two, travelling back in time to Scotland in 1743 where she met Jamie.
Later on in the show, daughter Brianna (Sophie Skelton) and Roger (Richard Rankin) join them in the 18th Century.
But as they all settle into their new lives living in Inverness, does this mean there will be no more time travel?
Actress Balfe hinted we could still see some time-hopping in the upcoming season.

Entertainment Weekly filmed an interview with the cast of Outlander at this year’s New York Comic Con.
When asked about time travelling in season five, Balfe had to keep tight-lipped
She said: “I wish I could tell you so many things but unfortunately we are not allowed.
“You know, it is always an element of our show.”
She isn’t the only one who has hinted there is more time-travelling to come.
Jamie’s uncle Dougal MacKenzie (Graham McTavish) died after choking on his own blood but we could be seeing him again in season five.
In a new interview with sknr.net earlier this year, the star spoke about his role on historical drama Preacher when he was then asked about Outlander.
He was asked: “While your character is essentially dead in Outlander; in later books his son with Geilis [Duncan] does make an appearance.
“Is there a flashback opportunity? And what was it like filming something that highlighted the history of your culture?”
The actor teased: “The beauty of a show that allows time travel is that anything can happen. We shall see.”

A fan on Reddit may have also revealed we should expect time travel in the upcoming season.
One Reddit user explained their theory of Jamie being about to travel through time but not through the stones at Craig Na Dun.
They suggest there will be another place which Jamie can use as a portal to get to the future.
However, another Reddit user hinted at what is yet to come.
They said: “Without giving spoilers from the books, all I can say is there’s more traveling ahead that may disprove your theory!”
So if the series follows author Diana Gabaldon’s books, we could be seeing more time travel imminently.

Gabaldon’s fifth Outlander book is The Fiery Cross which the next series will be based on.
A sixth season has already been announced but whether Outlander will continue afterwards is still not known.
However, there are a total of 10 books in the series so there could be potential for 10 seasons.
Outlander season 5 will be available on February 17, 2020 on Amazon Prime.
