Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker – UK release date, trailer, cast and running time

STAR Wars fans are chomping at the bit for the next instalment of their beloved franchise and they don't have to wait long.

We take you through everything you should know about Episode 9 – The Rise Of Skywalker.

When is the Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker released in UK cinemas and what is the running time?

Disney have announced that Episode 9 will hit UK cinemas THIS THURSDAY (December 19, 2019).

It follow on from Stars Wars: The Force Awakens (2015) and Star Wars: The Last Jedi (2017).

It was previously thought it would be the longest Star Wars film ever at 2 hours and 35 minutes – HOWEVER – director JJ Abrams has said this is incorrect and the running time is in fact 2 hours and 21 minutes (give or take a minute).

The age rating is 12A.

Is Mark Hamill is in Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker?

Mark Hamill IS in Episode 9.

The Luke Skywalker actor has confirmed that he will be back as a Force ghost in The Rise of Skywalker after his death in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

However, it looks like this will be his last Star Wars film

During an interview with AP, Mark was asked whether Star Wars E9 would be the final film for him and he said: “I sure hope so!”

He then added: “I had closure in the last one."

But you'll have to wait until the new film comes out to see Luke Skywalker as a ghost, as he doesn't appear in the final trailer – however you do hear his voice.

The final shot of the trailer sees Rey looking out at something as Luke can be heard saying "the Force will be with you" and Leia adds: "Always."

Is Carrie Fisher in Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker?

Carrie Fisher DOES return as Leia Organa (AKA Princess Leia).

After she died in 2017 there had been fears she wouldn't be in the movie – however, she is in Episode 9 using footage shot from a previous film.

Carrie will posthumously reprise her role and writer-director JJ Abrams revealed more about the late actress' part in the D23 Expo panel in early 2019.

He said: "The character of Leia is really the heart of this story, we couldn't possibly tell the end of these nine films without Leia.

"We realised that we had footage from episode 7 that we realised we could use in a new way. So Carrie, as Leia, gets to be in the film.”

Who is in the main cast of Star Wars: The Rise Of Skywalker?

  • Daisy Ridley as Rey – an orphan from Jakku and a member of the Resistance. She is the last known Jedi and apprentice of Luke Skywalker.
  • Adam Driver as Kylo Ren – the Supreme Leader of the First Order after overthrowing Snoke and master of the Knights of Ren. Born Ben Solo, he is the son of Leia Organa and Han Solo, the nephew of Luke Skywalker, and grandson of Darth Vader.

  • Oscar Isaac as Poe Dameron – a high-ranking X-wing fighter pilot and commander of the Resistance
  • Anthony Daniels as C-3PO –  a humanoid protocol droid in the service of General Leia Organa. Anthony is the only actor to have appeared in all of the episodic films in the series.
  • BB-8 and R2-D2 also feature in the new trailer.
