Beyoncé and Jay-Z Just Snuck In to the 2020 Golden Globes
The great Julie Andrews once recited the following lines on The Princess Diaries, thereafter changing the concept of time forever: “A queen is never late. Everyone else is simply early.”
Beyoncé, arguably the only kind of queen many people would ever bow down to, gets this more than anyone. During the 77th annual Golden Globes, she snuck in the back of the venue while the show was already well underway–missing the red carpet, Ricky Gervais’s blunt opening monologue, and a couple awards. Luckily for her and Jay-Z (who also arrived late with Queen Bey), they arrived just as Kate McKinnon was introducing Ellen DeGeneres for the Carol Burnett Award.
Beyoncé was nominated for Best Original Song for a Motion Picture for her work on The Lion King‘s “Spirit.” Her Golden Globe nomination has spurred speculation of her eventually achieving EGOT status, the acronym for those who have won an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony.
Although she ultimately lost the category to Elton John and Bernie Taupin for their collaboration on the Rocketman song “I’m Gonna Love Me Again,” Bey may still yet have her sights set on an EGOT. The awards season is still young after all.
