  • SOUL SEARCHING

Arsene Wenger claimed Arsenal “left their soul” at Highbury.

The legendary manager told beIN Sports: “I moved from Highbury, which was similar to Anfield, but there was a soul in the stadium.

“We built a new stadium but we never found our soul – we left our soul at Highbury.

“We could never recreate it for security reasons.”

  • YOU'RE NOT LAYVIN

Arsenal have been dealt a blow in their bid to sign PSG left-back Layvin Kurzawa as Thomas Tuchel is unwilling to sell.

The PSG boss said he “needs the defender” which could put a dent in the Gunners' plans.

The German said: “I haven't spoken with Layvin or anyone else about his departure this winter.

“Layvin is number two behind [Juan] Bernat in the left-back position.

“We need him and Layvin will play tomorrow (Sunday) against Lorient.

    “He has played well recently.”

Arsenal will have to wait until at least the summer to sign Layvin Kurzawa if Thomas Tuchel gets his way.

As reported by Goal, the PSG boss does not want to lose the French left-back, as it would harm him his strength in depth.

The Gunners are currently using winger Bukayo Saka in the position, with Kieran Tierney and Sead Kolasinac both injured.

They have been looking to take Kurzawa for a small fee, with the defender out of contract in the summer and able to move for free.

But Tuchel wants to keep his second-choice left-back.

The ex-Borussia Dortmund coach said: “I haven't spoken with Layvin or anyone else about his departure this winter.

“Layvin is number two behind [Juan] Bernat in the left-back position. We need him and Layvin will play tomorrow (Sunday) against Lorient.

    “He has played well recently.”

Arsenal are also prepared to take Jerome Boateng on loan, before pushing for a summer move for Dayot Upamecano.

Mikel Arteta is in desperate need of defensive reinforcements, but is unable to spend big following last year's overhaul.

Bayern Munich centre-back Boateng has been touted, but there are concerns over his age and lack of playing time in Germany – having been pushed down the pecking order at the Bundesliga champions.

Yet, after another disastrous show at the back against Sheffield United on Saturday, the Gunners could push ahead with a loan deal until the end of the season.

And then follow that up with the £50m signing of Upamecano in the summer, as reported by Daily Star.
