Casualty Duffy exit ‘ruined’ as baffled fans point out major blunder

Casualty aired Lisa "Duffy" Duffin's (Cathy Shipton) emotional exit tonight and fans were left grabbing the tissues following the tear-jerking scenes.

Show favourite Charlie Fairhead (Derek Thompson) has been doing his best to care for his wife Duffy at their home in recent scenes of the BBC One media drama.

Duffy was diagnosed with dementia last year but Holby City nurse Charlie refused to move his wife into a care home as his love for her clouded his judgement.

His decision had severe consequences tonight as Duffy went missing in the middle of a snowstorm.

It was later revealed that Cathy still believed that she was a midwife and had left her house to go to work.

The former nurse retraced the steps she did to the hospital during a snowstorm back in 1989.

Things went from bad to worse as Duffy collapsed in the snow in heartbreaking scenes.

Her lifeless body was found by a worried Charlie who did his best to warm up his beloved wife.

In need of urgent medical assistance, Duffy was assessed by an ambulance crew who quickly discovered her life was hanging on the balance.

In the hospital, Duffy suffered a seizure leaving her with a "catastrophic" bleed on the right side of her brain.

Medics later told a heartbroken Charlie that there was nothing they could to help his wife.

Eagled-eyed viewers were left baffled that Duffy's children were not mentioned during the emotional episode.

Taking to Twitter, one BBC viewer said: "OK so now we have established Duffy has her three boys. Where the funk are they?"

Another added: "Wonder where Duffy's boys are?? She has like three! Peter, Jake and Paul. Just in case you forgot?"

A third tweeted: "Why has nobody informed Duffy’s children?"

A fourth said: "Didn't Duffy have other children – where are they?"

Actress Cathy Shipton has played Duffy since Casualty's first episode and appeared in over 350 episodes of the show.

Speaking ahead of her emotional exit, Cathy said: "Walking in Duffy’s shoes through the years has taught me so much for which I’ll be forever grateful.

"I’m honoured and humbled to have played this inspiring woman. With sadness, but a sense of completion, I'll say goodbye."

Casualty continues on BBC One on Saturday at 8.55pm
