Kanye West’s Ex-Associate Slapped With Lawsuit for Alleged $2.5M Scam
Legal papers uncover that executives at South Korean eyewear label Gentle Monster accuse Malik Yusef of forging the ‘Stronger’ rapper’s signature for a false business deal.
AceShowbiz –Kanye West‘s former associate Malik Yusef is facing a lawsuit alleging he forged the rapper’s signature in a multi-million dollar scam.
Executives at South Korean eyewear label Gentle Monster allege Malik, Kanye’s one-time G.O.O.D. Music label mate and collaborator, scammed the company out of $2.5 million (£2 million) by falsely inking a deal tying the rapper to the brand.
In legal papers obtained by TMZ.com, it is claimed the spoken word poet even set up a meeting between the 41-year-old superstar and Gentle Monster’s U.S. chief, after which he produced an agreement purportedly signed by the hip-hop legend.
However, in February, when Gentle Monster released a project advertised as featuring music produced by Kanye, the rapper’s wife Kim Kardashian publicly denied his involvement.
“This is not true. Kanye is not involved and did not produce this song,” she tweeted alongside a link to the clip, causing the brand to remove all posts.
Kim Kardashian denied Kanye West was involved in a Gentle Monster project.
Kanye allegedly had no clue there was any type of deal in place and, according to the filing, Yusef promised famous faces including Pharrell Williams and Jaden Smith would also help out with the project.
Malik was also accused of using the star’s name for profit back in February, as he signed the Yeezy fashion mogul up to perform at Philipp Plein’s New York Fashion Week show. The gig never happened and he later reportedly returned the cash.
