Phillip Schofield thanks Dancing On Ice cast and crew for support after coming out in emotional speech at wrap party – The Sun
PHILLIP Schofield thanked the Dancing On Ice cast and crew for supporting him when he came out earlier this year – as he gave an emotional speech at the wrap party.
The 57-year-old, who hosts the show alongside Holly Willoughby, took to the microphone at the boozy bash last night after Joe Swash was crowned winner.
Mid-way through the series Phillip bravely revealed his sexuality on Instagram before discussing it on This Morning – and he has now praised the Dancing On Ice for helping him through it.
He told them: “From that moment on we were cool, we were OK and you were amazing and we were a team and we loved each other and you gave me exactly what I needed at exactly the right time.”
As the crowd cheered, he continued: “Even if it was just walking past someone I had never seen before and they would look up and give you a smile and that is what our team is all about and that is what I like about you.”
He was joined at the party by his wife Stephanie and daughters Ruby, 24, and Molly, 27, and he also gave them a shout out.
Phillip has showered his family with praise since the news broke and said he was aware of the "pain and upset" caused but that it had consumed him for years.
He said Steph had been "simply astonishing" while Ruby and Molly had immediately wrapped him in a "big and long" hug when he told them.
In the brave interview, Phillip, who married Stephanie in March 1993, said he had felt "overriding guilt" over the impact his statement would have on his family.
But he said they had immediately supported him, describing Steph as the "kindest soul" he had ever met.
