Where is April Jones’ killer Mark Bridger now? – The Sun
THE murder of five year-old April Jones shocked the nation in 2012.
An appeal was launched after her disappearance and a day after the appeal, local man Mark Bridger was arrested and subsequently charged for her abduction and murder.
Five year-old April, from Machynlleth, Wales, disappeared near her home on October 1, 2012.
She was seen getting into a vehicle in the area on the day of her disappearance.
This led her mother, Coral Jones, to make an impassioned appeal to help find her daughter, the appeal was also supported by then Prime Minister, David Cameron.
A large search operation was then conducted by the police and search teams, in the hope of finding April.
Shortly after, 46-year-old Mark Bridger, was arrested for her abduction, after fitting the description of the man who April was seen getting into the vehicle with.
Eyewitnesses had seen April in conversation with a man in a Land Rover Discovery left hand drive.
Mark Bridger was arrested less than 24 hours after April went missing.
After an extensive search for April provided no insight on her whereabouts, police officially turned the case into a murder inquiry on October 5, 2012.
Just a day later on October 6, Bridger was charged with child abduction, murder, and attempting to pervert the course of justice.
He was additionally charged with the unlawful concealment and disposal of a body on October 8.
On January 14, 2013 at Mold Crown Court, Bridger pleaded not guilty to the charge of murdering April Jones, but accepted that he was "probably responsible" for her death.
His trial began on April 29, 2013.
Bridger claimed that he had accidentally run over April in his car and could not remember disposing of her body due to heavy drinking and being in a panic.
On 30 May 2013, Bridger was found guilty of abduction, murder, and perverting the course of justice.
He was sentenced to life in prison with a recommendation that he should never be released by the Judge.
Despite his conviction, the whereabouts of April's body remain unknown.
Bridger was a career criminal with crimes stemming back to the 1980's, including firearm offences and theft.
He moved from London to Wales in the 80's where he picked up his life of crime.
He was also convicted for a number of violent offences such as battery and threatening behaviour in 2004 and assault in 2007.
After his inital arrest, the police found a large collection of child abuse images on Bridger's personal computer.
This prompted a campaign by April's parents in November 2013 which was backed by several major newspapers.
It was last reported that Bridger was moved to HMP Wakefield, Yorkshire.
It has been said that HMP Wakefield is one of Britian's most dangerous prisons, and was once home to Ian Huntley said to be one of Bridger's heroes.
Other residents of the prison include some of Britian's most notorious killers with the likes of paedophile Roy Whiting, who murdered Sarah Payne, and Milly Dowler’s killer Levi Bellfield.
He has been defined as a Category A prisoner – the most dangerous in the country.
This means his every move will be monitored, he can't share a cell, and he won't be provided with luxuries such as a TV.
In 2016, Bridger had his demand to be moved to another jail denied by prison chiefs after being slashed in the face by another inmate.
