The highly anticipated fifth season of Lucifer has been quietly revealed to be released on Netflix on August 21st. With just under two months for the Biblical action series to continue, viewers have been teased the return of a major character from the show’s original run on Fox.
After a long period of speculation, the first part of Lucifer’s fifth season finally has a release date.
Netflix confirmed the announcement with little fanfare by adding the new date of August 21st for the first eight episodes on Lucifer’s official page.
Meanwhile, the events following Lucifer Morningstar’s (played by Tom Ellis) crushing decision to return to Hell at the end of season four have been teased by the cast and crew.
As well as hinting towards more ‘Deckerstar’ developments and an even douchier Detective Dan Espinoza (Kevin Alejandro), upcoming seasons could feature the return of a major player from seasons two and three.

Lucifer’s mother, Goddess, featured heavily in the second season inhabiting the body of defence lawyer Charlotte Richards (Tricia Helfer) as the primary antagonist.
Goddess attempts to persuade Lucifer to return with her to Heaven, but is eventually vanquished when Lucifer manages to wield the flaming sword.
Charlotte then returns in her human form in season three and has a brief relationship with Dan before being killed by Marcus Pierce, also known as Cain (Tom Welling).
However, Lucifer’s mother is still floating around in the void, leading some ‘Lucifans’ to speculate about her eventual return.
Moreover, the show’s lead star Tom Ellis was recently confirmed to have signed on for a sixth season, leaving Goddess plenty of time to make a comeback.
In an exclusive interview with AssignmentX, executive producer and co-showrunner of Lucifer Joe Henderson suggested Lucifer’s celestial mother could make an unexpected return to the series.
AssignmentX asked Joe: “At the end of season two, Lucifer’s mother, the Goddess of All Creation, played by Tricia Helfer, went off to create her own universe. Are we ever going to see the universe that Mom made?”
To which the co-showrunner replied: “We’ve talked about it. It’s got to be where the Horse People are, that’s what I think.”

Joe’s comments revealed fans could finally get a glimpse of Goddess’s new universe at some point in season five or six.
He then joked: “I’m going to pitch you, this is an exclusive – what happens is, you start on Dan, and he’s talking to a bunch of people, and then you pan down, and you reveal that he’s part-man, part-horse.
“And then he clomps away. And that’s your reveal of Mom’s world. It’s all centaurs.”
While the showrunner’s idea of Dan Espinoza on the body of a horse would be hilarious to see, it’s quite clear Joe Henderson wasn’t serious about introducing a universe of centaurs to Lucifer.

- Lucifer season 6: Is Tom Ellis leaving Lucifer?
However, he did continue by revealing potential plans among the show’s team of writers to eventually revisit Lucifer’s vanquished mother.
He continued: “The serious answer to your question is, it’s something we’ve talked about.
“The question is, can we find a story there that reflects our characters, especially with all that’s going on? But if we find it, yes.”
Lucifer season five is set to introduce Dennis Haysbert as the devil’s father, God, so the stage could be perfectly set for an upcoming family reunion.
