Adele Adkins, 32, has flaunted her svelte figure on Instagram after she quit bad habits, adopted a strict diet and a workout regime. In younger years, the singer was known for her curvier frame and refusal to conform to music industry body standards by losing weight. She also deflected brutal comments from the late Karl Lagerfeld, then creative director for Chanel, who blasted her for being “a little too fat”. Around the time that hurtful remarks began, as her vocal talent propelled her to international acclaim, she revealed several reasons why she would undergo a body transformation.

The ‘Chasing Pavements’ crooner candidly spoke about her weight and the perception of her size after the release of debut album ‘19’ – which was later certified eight times platinum in the UK and three in the US.

At the same time, she had been honoured with the ‘BBC Sound of 2008’ award and named the Brit Awards ‘Critics’ Choice’ – before she went on to win a score of other accolades.

Adele candidly revealed that fluctuating between a size 14 and 18 for years didn’t faze her, as she boldly professed that her larger frame wouldn’t dampen her chances of success.

She told the independent: “I’m just not bothered. It doesn’t bother me. I’m not naive, I don’t believe I need to look like that.

“I’m very confident, even when I read people saying horrible stuff about my weight.”

The ‘Skyfall’ singer admitted that there were only a few incentives for her to consider weight loss.

She said: “Until I start not liking my own body, until it gets in the way of my health or stops me having a boyfriend, then I don’t care.”

Adele felt fortunate to be unaffected by negative comments about her size and added that she was “fine” with how she looked.

She continued: “It’s never been an issue in any of the relationships I’ve had. None of my friends, girls, are obsessed with weight.

“In fact, it’s more my boys, who are friends, they’re like, ‘I’m not gonna eat pasta’… trying to be skinny indie boys, yeah, but that’s too skinny!”

In recent years, Adele is believed to have had a number of inspirations for her decision to lose weight.

They have included her want to be an inspiration for her son Angelo James, now seven, and the separation from husband-of-three-years Simon Konecki in 2019.

It’s claimed that former ‘One Direction’ singer Harry Styles may have influenced her decision to shed a few pounds.

He took her on a hike along his favourite trail in Malibu, Florida, and after her break-up she enrolled in high-intensity interval training (HIIT) alongside the ‘Watermelon Sugar’ singer.

Adele is known to have given up her addiction to 10 sugary cups of tea a day – as well as the majority of her caffeine intake.

She also reduced her alcohol intake and quit cigarettes in a bid to get healthier for her son.

This weekend, Adele shared a snap of her without make-up and with long curly blonde locks in a post that praised Beyoncé.

She wrote: “Thank you Queen for always making us all feel so loved through your art.”
