Spoilers: Abi faces huge Corrie trauma after a terrible loss

There are some seriously troubling times ahead for Abi Franklin (Sally Carman) as the long suffering mum of three is set to suffer a breakdown in the wake of seeing her twins emigrate to Australia.

The Coronation Street favourite has tried to keep her head in the sand over the impending departures of the twins she was forced to give up but she recently opened up to Gemma Winter (Dolly-Rose Campbell) that it’s the most selfless thing she could do to let them go and live their lives with their adoptive family.

That doesn’t make it hurt any less when they do go and Corrie is lining up some emotional scenes for her as she hits rock bottom, impacted by their departure more than she ever realised.

Abi already has an extremely troubled background which includes battles with alcohol and substances and so this could indeed push her over the edge – and potentially even cause a relapse.

While Kevin Webster (Michael le Vell) may be oblivious to how she is feeling, but inside, she is a ticking time bomb. And the arrival of Kevin’s sister Debbie (Sue Devaney) does little to help the situation as she is instantly suspicious of Abi and fears that she will hurt Kevin.

This will set Debbie and Abi against each other instantly – and as Abi’s situation starts to spiral out of control, she ends up being supported by a friend in need.

But as this person becomes Abi’s rock, will they themselves get out of their depth? And when Debbie spots them together, will she put two and two together and reach five?
