Gerald McCoy ruptures quad in $18 million Cowboys nightmare
The majority of the NFL began padded practices on Monday and one team in particular didn’t get off to a good start.
Prize defensive tackle Gerald McCoy suffered a ruptured quad tendon during individual drills and will miss the entire 2020 season. McCoy needed to be helped off the field after attempting to put weight on the leg.
McCoy, 32, signed a three-year, $18 million deal with the Cowboys this offseason after reaching six Pro Bowls with the Buccaneers. McCoy spent last season with the Panthers. He was part of a shakeup to the Dallas defensive line that included Aldon Smith, Dontari Poe and Everson Griffen.
“He’s a perennial Pro Bowler, and he looks great. Can’t say enough about the shape he’s in and just the energy that he brings to our defensive front,” new coach Mike McCarthy said before practice. “… He’s a great fit for us. We look for him to be a force inside.”
