'90 Day Fiancé': Fans Have Mixed Reactions to Angela Deem and Michael Ilesanmi’s Wedding Photos; Some Claim Michael 'Sold His Soul' to Angela
Angela Deem and Michael Ilesanmi finally tied the knot in Michael’s home country of Nigeria on a recent episode of TLC’s 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After. Except for one kerfuffle over the word “obey” in her wedding vows, Angela seemed overjoyed during the nuptials—even though it was a bittersweet moment due to her mom’s failing health back in the U.S.
Recently, 54-year-old Angela uploaded several photos of her long-awaited wedding to 32-year-old Michael on Instagram. 90 Day Fiancé fans had mixed reactions, with some congratulating the newlyweds and other warning Michael that he “sold his soul” to his American bride.
Angela recently shared photos of her wedding in Nigeria
After multiple K-1 visa delays and denials—and pushback from Michael’s family members, who were concerned about Angela’s fertility status—Michael and Angela finally decided to move forward with their wedding in Lagos, Nigeria. After a three-year, long-distance relationship, the 90 Day Fiancé couple tied the knot at last.
Angela recently took to Instagram to share a series of photos of her big day, which took place on Jan. 27, 2020.
In one snapshot, Angela showed off her towering wedding cake, bedecked in the colors of both the American flag and the Nigerian flag. In another, the grandmother of six shared a photo of herself holding a bouquet of flowers—each of which represented the birthstones of her daughter, mother, and grandkids—and looking adoringly at her groom.
Looking fondly back on her wedding day, Angela captioned the Instagram photo, “’True love stands by each other’s side on good days and stands closer on bad days.’ Happy Married Life to us! Thank you all for your prayers and support.”
Angela also donned a bright red gown for her reception, which she noted was her late mother Glenda Standridge’s favorite color.
Some ’90 Day Fiancé’ fans criticized Angela and Michael’s relationship after their wedding
Of course, not all 90 Day Fiancé viewers are big fans of Angela—especially because of her tendency to fly off the handle at Michael over seemingly small issues, such as talking to other women or even being seen with them in public. Some fans suggested that Michael did himself a disservice by marrying Angela.
“Michael just sold his soul,” an Instagram user wrote under one of Angela’s wedding snapshots. “It’s downhill from here.” Others argued that Angela treated her husband like a “dog” or her “child” and gave him no respect, while some suggested that Michael had only gone through with the marriage to get a green card.
But Angela has never been one to take criticism lying down, and she immediately clapped back at critics’ negative remarks on Instagram.
“If you want to continue to follow us then I suggest you watch your insults next time,” she retorted in response to one critic’s comments, threatening to “block him herself” if he ever made any similar remarks again.
Others vehemently defended Michael and Angela’s marriage
While some 90 Day Fiancé fans thought Michael shouldn’t have married Angela, other viewers thought the couple seemed head over heels in love in their wedding photos.
Several fans told Angela she was “glowing” in her bridal gown, while others accused critics of being “jealous of [the couple’s] happiness.” Some even admitted that they were skeptical of Angela and Michael’s intentions at first, but now, they believed the couple was truly genuine in their love for one another.
“They are madly in love,” one fan wrote wistfully of the May-December couple.
In response to criticism of the pair, another viewer insisted, “Michael is a grown up, Angela may be a strong woman but she loves him.”
Angela’s close friend, JoJo, who served as her American witness at her wedding, also had a few words of support for the newlyweds.
“Sissy you know I’m always gonna be here for you!” JoJo wrote to Angela. “I love you so much all I wanna do is see you happy! You deserve to be happy and be loved! Many blessings to you and Michael!”
Many of Angela’s castmates also had words of encouragement and support to offer the newly married pair. Robert Springs, Juliana Custodio, Michael Jessen, Darcey Silva, Jesse Meester, Syngin Colchester, and Paola Mayfield were just a few of the TLC cast members who shared their blessings for Angela and Michael’s marriage.
