Line Of Duty stars in hysterics on the set of gripping new series – as 'balaclava man' looks on ominously

STARS of police drama Line of Duty were seen in hysterics as they filmed scenes for the new series – while a man in a balaclava is seen looking on ominously.

Vicky McClure, Martin Compston and Adrian Dunbar were seen chortling as they mingled with the crew, which were all decked out in PPE, while filming series 6 in Belfast.

In one behind the scenes photo, Vicky McClure, who plays Detective Inspector Kate Fleming, looks tense as she looks over at the balaclava man with her gun drawn.

In another one of the police teams point his automatic gun at the back of a woman who has her arms up in the arm.

However, Martin Compston who plays Sergeant Steve Arnott looks far more relaxed as he’s seen laughing with one of the crew members.

The cast have been filming predominately in West Belfast and have been treating locals to some dramatic moments lately.

At one point an amazing stunt was pulled off where a large white van was flipped over.

The scene involved a gunman in a balaclava standing in front of a black SUV while taking aim at approaching police officers.

Another dramatic moment sees the gunman leading away a security guard who has her hands over her head as he points a gun at her.

Shooting resumed this month on the acclaimed series after the coronavirus lockdown put a pause on production.

The hundreds of cast and crew could be seen wearing masks as they made sure to try and prevent the transmission of the coronavirus

The BBC hit is due back on the small screen in 2021.

Line Of Duty's writer, Jed Mercurio, previously revealed stuntmen had been working on nail-biting "van rolls" to feature in the next instalment.

Images released ahead of the show see a white transit van toppled completely on its side during a high-speed chase, with the windscreen left completely smashed.

It was speeding through Belfast city centre, accompanied by police, but boxed in by corrupt cops before veering off course.

Those in the vehicle were armed with guns while, in a separate incident, a group of balaclava-clad men were seen surrounding a black Range Rover.

It remains to be seen if everyone escapes unhurt, especially actress Shalom Brune-Franklin, whose character is new to the series.

Earlier this month, Mercurio teased a first look at Kelly Macdonald’s new character in series six.

It was revealed last year that the Trainspotting actress had been cast as the department’s next big adversary, playing Detective Chief Inspector Joanne Davidson.

Speaking about the return, showrunner Jed Mercurio enthused: “We know Line of Duty fans are desperate for series 6 and we hope we can get it on air as soon as possible.

“Thanks so much for your patience in these difficult times.”
