K-Pop Star Hara Releases Statement After Suicide Attempt

Goo Ha-ra, better known as Hara, is speaking out after a suicide attempt at her home on Sunday (May 26).

The 28-year-old singer and actress, known as a member of the now disbanded K-Pop girl group Kara, issued a statement via representative on Tuesday (May 28) regarding her health.

“I’m truly sorry for causing concern due to the recent event. I am currently recovering my health. I was feeling distressed due to various incidents that piled up. I will try my best to show a healthy side of myself by having a stronger mindset. I am truly sorry about the recent incident,” she said. (English translation via Soompi.)

At the same time, she was set to testify against former soccer player and ex Choi Jong Bum in a case involving abuse and blackmail.

“[Goo Hara] is not in a position to appear at the trial. She’s currently recovering her health. If the next trial can be scheduled, she will attend. [She will be able to attend] after early July. The victim wants to make a statement. She said she wanted to do it herself,” her lawyer said.

He previously denied all of the charges except destruction and damage of property in a previous trial. The next court date is set for July 25.
