‘I tried Primark shopping online on Amazon and here’s what happened’
Many of us are missing Primark during the second lockdown.
The retailer is a great place to buy affordable clothing, homeware and Christmas gifts.
But as the shop has closed for a month, many have tried to source its items on Amazon instead.
Primark does not have a “commercial relationship” with Amazon so any items are being sold through a third party.
So how easy is it to get hold of the high-street products online? And is it worth the extra effort?
Birmingham Live reporter Jordan Coussins recently purchased some Primark items on Amazon to find out. Here’s what he had to say…
How do you buy Primark products online?
While you can’t guarantee authentic items on Amazon, you can find some Primark products on there.
Simply head to the Amazon website and search 'Primark'.
A range of homeware products and pyjamas comes up and even some clothing by its in store brand Atomsphere.
Is there much choice?
I initially went on looking for a T-shirt. If you go into a Primark store, you are probably choosing from hundreds of designs.
Here, you are mostly looking at variants of a plain Fruit of the Loom T-shirt.
In the end, I gave up on T-shirts.
Is delivery free?
It actually is on some items – but not most of them.
I saw an array of costs, heading up to £8 or more.
But when I clicked through on a certain hoodie – costing £8.50 – I found it would be £5.50 for 'standard' delivery – which promises to arrive at your home within 35 days in this instance, or it would have been £42.99 to have it "express" delivered – meaning it would arrive in the next 12 days.
Is it user friendly?
Well, it is Amazon, so yes. It's clearly set out and you can easily see what is your size.
Obviously there are pitfalls in paying where you are offered Prime or various other things but you can circumvent that.
Would you suggest it to a friend?
In short, no.
If you are looking for cheap clothes, you can find them on Amazon I am sure, but probably not by searching for Primark.
If you are awaiting your Primark fix, you might have to wait a bit longer.
Is Primark going to sell clothes online?
Well, it doesn't appear to be on the agenda.
John Bason, finance chief, previously told MirrorOnline: "Look at a £2 T-shirt. Everyone think it's clickety-click but one third of clothes get returned.
"That means someone has to pick it up, someone has to deliver it, someone in the store has to take it back, refold it. It doesn’t work at the lower price point."
