Julianna Margulies has joined the Season 2 cast of “The Morning Show” on Apple TV+. Variety reported Wednesday that she will play UBA news anchor Laura Peterson on the drama, joining Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon on the drama’s fictional network morning show. The streamer previously announced that Greta Lee (“Russian Doll”), Ruairi O’Connor and Hasan Minhaj (“Patriot Act With Hasan Minhaj”) also would join the show in the new season, which additionally stars Steve Carell, Billy Crudup, Mark Duplass, Nestor Carbonell, Bel Powley, Karen Pittman and Desean Terry. The show, currently in production, will return sometime in 2021.

Three-time Emmy winner Margulies, 54, won a 2010 Golden Globe for her portrayal of attorney Alicia Florrick in the CBS drama “The Good Wife.” That show, which ended in 2016 and was produced by Robert and Michelle King, led to a spinoff, “The Good Fight,” starring Christine Baranski on CBS All Access.

Since “The Good Wife” ended, Margulies has appeared in several series including Showtime’s “Billions,” “The Hot Zone” on Nat Geo and AMC’s “Dietland.” Last year, she said she would have considered a stint on “The Good Fight,” but ran into a financial roadblock with CBS.

“I’m not a guest star; I started the whole thing with ‘The Good Wife,’ ” Margulies said. “I wanted to be paid my worth and stand up for equal pay. If Jon Hamm came back for a ‘Mad Men’ spinoff or Kiefer Sutherland wanted to do a ’24’ spinoff, they would be paid.”
