Laurence Fox, 42, who recently launched his bid for London mayor, has divided Twitter users over his decision to join thousands of maskless protesters in London, in a bid to end the current UK lockdown. The Lewis actor has been vehemently against government restrictions during the coronavirus pandemic, and has insisted if he is voted in as a mayor, all lockdown measures will be lifted for good.

Today he joined anti-lockdown protesters who swarmed central London in their thousands, as the Reclaim party leader insisted they “take their freedom” back.
In a tweet aimed at the Prime Minister who had celebrated the success of coronavirus jabs, Laurence wrote: “Open the country. Stop moving the goalposts.
“We are perfectly poised to get ahead at this crucial time. Our liberty is not your property.”
Underneath his followers weighed in on Laurence’s decision to join in the protest, as one user called him “selfish” while another said they “agreed” with his actions.
One said: “So if this event causes a spike in cases and the govt extend the lockdown what will your escalation response look like?”
A second typed: “You still making yourself look a complete muppet.” (sic)
Another replied: “Very selfish of you today. Hopefully, you will do the honourable thing and give a personal apology to everybody sat on public transport you have inconvenienced today just so you can walk in the middle of the road.”
A third commented: “Agreed -@OliverDowden comments on @talkRADIO yesterday should concern us all – on the back of nearly all vulnerable groups vaccinated and the June 21st all restrictions removed date – he was saying there’ll still be masks, one way systems and tests to gain entry to many events!”
Meanwhile a fourth remarked: “This [lockdown] can not be allowed to continue!”
Following this post, Laurence shared a number of photographs from today’s demonstration including a video of maskless protesters high fiving a bus driver.
Laurence said: “This bus driver is a hero. To be sat still in a giant traffic jam and to still be able to show genuine appreciation for those who are causing the giant traffic jam.”
It comes as the star had previously explained he was standing for London mayor to lift lockdown straight away.

He told The Daily Telegraph : “I am standing for London mayor. With almost all older and vulnerable people having got their jab, I want the lockdown lifted straight away.
“The Government has said vaccines are working, hospitalisations and deaths are tumbling, but we are still being told we won’t be able to resume normal life until mid-summer at the earliest.
“Both the main parties are competing in this dreary race to be the last to set the country free. Both Tory and Labour have got this badly wrong.
“I want London – and indeed the rest of the country – to be allowed to get back to work and play immediately – not by late June.”
The star recently sparked backlash after he showed his “mask exemption” badge on social media.
He wrote: “After a long period of consultation with myself, an extended review period and proper due diligence conducted with myself, I’ve received the badge that I ordered from Amazon. “
He added: “Thank you for being there for me. #anxiety.”
Some Twitter users were left outraged by the statement, as they asked why he would put others most at risk from the severe side effects of the virus in jeopardy.
One said: “I have severe lung fibrosis as a result of sarcoidosis. I’m extremely vulnerable to the virus. I have l limited lung function but wish everyone would wear a mask, like I do whenever I go out. What’s your excuse for putting me at risk?”
