Police investigating brawl that broke out among adults at Colorado youth baseball game
Police are investigating a brawl that broke out at a youth baseball game in Colorado over the weekend.
The Lakewood (Colorado) Police Department said in a statement released on social media Tuesday that the fight occurred on the baseball fields at Westgate Elementary, when coaches and parents started throwing punches during a game for 7-year-olds that featured a 13-year-old umpire.
Video of the incident released by police shows at least five people throwing punches as a crowd forms along the fence. Police said they are looking for any information on the brawl, but they are particularly interested in the identity of one of those involved, who is wearing a white shirt and teal shorts.
These adults took over the field and began assaulting each other on 6/15 during a youth baseball game. We're looking for any info, in particular to ID the man in the white shirt/teal shorts. Several people have already been cited in this fight and injuries were reported. pic.twitter.com/ieenhwCrbU
"Several people have already been cited in this fight and several injuries were reported," the Lakewood Police Department wrote on Facebook.
Police spokesperson John Romero told The Denver Post the man in teal shorts, who is seen on video throwing multiple punches, is likely facing an assault charge.
The newspaper reported that the game involved teams from Bear Creek and Lakewood, which are suburbs of Denver, and that the fight stemmed from a dispute that was initially directed at the teenage umpire.
