Love Island voting figures show Mille and Liam won with almost half public vote

Love Island came to an explosive end last night as Liam Reardon and Millie Court were voted champions of the popular 2021 series.

It has now been revealed that the stunning pair won an impressive 42 per cent of the public vote before snagging the £50,000 prize money.

Runners up Chloe Burrows and Toby Aromalaran scored 30.85% of the vote, while third place couple Faye Winter and Teddy Soares bagged 14.85 per cent.

Voting figures released this afternoon caused a stir on social media amongst fans who claimed the final had been “rigged” after popular couple Kaz Kamwi and Tyler Cruickshank finished in fourth place.

Many fans had been rooting for Kaz since the show kicked off, with ex winner Amber Gill tweeting: “I thought Kaz & Tyler would have at least been in the Top 2”.

Many viewers still contested the final votes, with one Twitter user writing: “Wtf??? This show is definitely rigged. Who tf are the 14.5 % of psychopaths that voted for Teddy and Faye??”.

Another fan hit back, in defence of the ITV2 show, saying: “I don’t think the votes were rigged, it was just simply a reflection of Great Britain.

Anyways let’s continue supporting the couple’s we’ve loved & move on because it’s actually not that deep #LoveIsland”.

Love Island's voting system has faced ongoing criticism throughout the series, with viewers as well as previous contestants branding it 'pointless'.

Last year’s winner Paige Turley said: “Why allow the public to vote yet continually let the islanders decide who stays?” referring to the show’s rules that allow contestants to decide who leaves the villa even after the public has voted.

2018 contestant Samira Mighty chimed in with: “I don't see the point of a public vote ???? When they always just ask the islanders to choose … like every time!!! I'm shook tbh!”

22-year-old bricklayer Liam shocked fans by asking 24-year-old Essex babe Millie to be his girlfriend during their live chat with Laura Whitmore before the results were announced.

The pair exchanged ‘I love you’ earlier this week, with Millie commenting: “We both planned to say it, but we didn't know we were both going to say it that night.

"But because it was his birthday, I thought it was the perfect time to say it and make it really special.”

Host Laura Whitmore also confirmed that Love Island will return to our screens for its eighth season in 2022.
