THIS is the incredible moment players turn on their own supporters after a heavy league defeat to a side which had trounced them in a previous cup match.

One of the losing footballers hit an angry fan with a left hook before a team-mate followed up with a kick.

Although the victim was behind fencing, footage of the ugly incident showed the punch connected and he appeared to be bleeding from a wound to his lip as he retreated to a safe distance.

Several families including children were sat nearby.

The assaults happened after Argentinian side Independiente de Neuquen lost 3-0 at home to regional rivals Cipoletti.

Riot police were standing just a few feet away but appeared to do nothing to apprehend the home side player who hit out first, identified locally as striker Manuel Berra.

The player who followed up with a kick was named as defender Federico Cataldi.

Local reports said problems started during the match when hooligans started throwing stones onto the pitch as third division side Independiente de Neuquen were staring defeat in the face against their biggest rivals.
