Adele rockets to top of charts with Easy On Me – the highest first week sales for a song in FIVE years
ADELE has rocketed to the top of the charts with her comeback single Easy On Me – with the highest first week sales for a song in almost five years.
The brilliant first track from her forthcoming album 30 sold a whopping 217,300 copies in the UK, just shy of the 226,800 copies of Shape Of You which Ed Sheeran shifted back in January 2017.
The monumental figures will help rejuvenate the British music industry after an abysmal 18 months, with the single also racking up a record 84.9million Spotify plays in a week globally.
Coldplay have been another key act in a bumper week for music, with their album Music of the Spheres becoming the fastest-selling album of 2021 so far, with 101,000 copies snapped up.
The last record to do more than that was Ed’s No. 6 Collaborations Project, which opened with 125,000 sales in July 2019.
Adele plans to return to Britain next month, where she is expected to introduce new boyfriend Rich Paul to her family.
