Mum's mission to trace mystery family's 1970s Yorkshire moors photo album hidden in £20 projector she bought on eBay
A MUM who bought a vintage projector on eBay discovered it contains dozens of slides featuring a mystery family – and is now hoping to track them down.
Tanya Forster, from Huntingdon, Cambs, purchased the Hanimex device for £19.99 hoping to use it to run some old slides from her own family she discovered in the attic after her father passed away.
But when Tanya, 44, went to play her own precious slides she uncovered there were already some featuring other families with the machine.
Intrigued by the find she contacted the seller who told her the images were with the projector when he bought it from a car boot sale, and he hadn’t had the heart to get rid of them.
The slides, around 100 in total, are all seemingly from the 70s and feature locations in North Yorkshire, including the town of Pickering, as well as the Yorkshire Dales and North Yorkshire Moors.
The set includes what seem to be two family weddings as well as what appear to be holiday photos, again in and around Yorkshire.
Tanya, a receptionist and mum-of-four, said: “My dad passed away and we were sorting things out and my mum thought some of our family slides had been thrown away years ago.
“I had always wanted to keep them and it turns out they were in the loft, and mum was really surprised to see them there.
“I bought the projector so we could watch them again. When we found the slides with the machine I emailed the seller to ask them if they were his.
“He told us when he bought the projector from a car boot sale some years ago the slides were in there, and he’d looked at them and didn’t have the heart to throw them away.”
Tanya said wanting to cherish her own family memories with the slides found in the loft now spurred her on to find the people in the mystery images.
She has since posted an appeal with lost and found service website Lostbox.co.uk, which has now been shared more than a thousand times on Facebook.
She said: “It would be amazing to reunite someone with these their slides, like I was so happy to find my dad’s old slides, I’m sure somebody would be happy to have their family memories back.

“I’m surprised so far no one has come forward or recognised the family given the amount of shares it has had on social media.
“We think the locations are from North Yorkshire and possibly the Pickering area. There are two different weddings in the slides, there’s also quite a lot of landscape pictures, and what look like photos from holidays.
“The wedding photos stand out for me, as my daughter and I ran a wedding photography business, so we know what wedding pictures are like.
“We didn’t realise at first but there are two different couples and sets of wedding photos so they must be precious memories to somebody, even for bridesmaids and guests.”
Dawn Cochrane, from Lostbox, said: “We love finds like this, as these photos are someone’s memories. We hope they can be returned to the family or families, and they can enjoy these memories.
