Dulwich Hamlet facing closure after being handed £121,000 rent bill to pay in 21 days
LONDON club Dulwich Hamlet face being shut down if they fail to pay their enormous £121,000 "back rent" bill this month.
Steps to close the club are already underway after their licence to play at Champion Hill was today terminated with immediate effect.
Meadow Residential LLP demanded the payment last week after Southwark Council rejected their plans for an £80million residential development on the site.
They threatened to issue a winding up petition on the popular non-league club, which pulls weekly crowds of over 1,500, if they have not received it by March 23.
Dulwich officials today travelled to Westminster to meet with MP's in a bid to save the club.
They hope the land will be bought by another party but Meadow are refusing to sell.
Meadow chief Andrew McDaniel told Dulwich's board last month they were unable to continue supporting the club as it is not "financially viable".
Meadow own Champion Hill and receive all the money that comes through the turnstiles.
