'He has his first scar' – Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp gives Luis Diaz injury update after knee knock against Cardiff

JURGEN KLOPP has played down fears that Luis Diaz suffered a serious injury on his Liverpool debut.

The new £50million forward from Porto came off the bench in Sunday’s 3-1 FA Cup win over Cardiff at Anfield.

Diaz made an instant impact as his trickery in the box created Liverpool’s third goal of the afternoon.

But there were worries when he later went down in agony clutching his knee after colliding with an opponent.

Replays showed Diaz’s knee had been stood on accidentally during the coming-together.

But despite looking to be in serious pain, the Colombia international was eventually able to see out the rest of the match.

Liverpool fans were left fearing their new signing could be out for a lengthy period of time.

But boss Klopp insists there is nothing to worry about, claiming the worst thing Diaz has suffered is a new scar.

Klopp said: “Yes it was a scary moment. [But] the goal he set up for Taki [Minamino] was incredible.

“Then the long ball and challenge, he goes down holding his knee afterwards, we were all really shocked.

“I looked on the screen and saw everything was fine in the air and fine when he came down but then I saw the Cardiff man stand on his knee.

“He is now bruised there and a scar, it’s red and a little bit open. We all said to him ‘welcome to England’.

“Now he has his first assist and his first scar. That’s absolutely OK, I don’t think it will be serious.

“Maybe tomorrow he feels it more and we have to react to that but it’s nothing serious.”
