Man, 38, charged with rape and kidnap after woman snatched from outside Co-op and 'bundled into car'

A MAN has appeared in the dock charged with kidnap and rape after a woman was allegedly snatched from the street outside a Co-op.

Brian Ncube was arrested by detectives after a string of alleged incidents in Reading, Berkshire between October 10 2021 and February 11 2022.

During one alleged incident, a woman in her 40s was dragged from one car into another outside the supermarket in Whitley Wood Road.

She was then driven away.

However, the woman was finally able to escape around half-a-mile away after the car slowed down outside a Sainsbury's in Shinfield Road, police said.

A 37-year-old man from Plymouth in Devon was arrested following the frightening ordeal on October 10.

He was later bailed.

Detectives last night charged Ncube, 38 and of Plymouth, with two counts of possessing ammo for a firearm without a certificate.

He also faces one count each of kidnap, rape, actual bodily harm, assault, controlling and coercive behaviour, stalking, harassment and theft,

A spokesman for Thames Valley Police said: "Ncube was charged after being arrested on Friday.

"He has been remanded in custody to appear at Reading Crown Court on March 14."
