Ex-UFC star Chris Leben, 41, 'grateful to be alive' after Covid battle as he shares update from hospital bed
FORMER UFC star Chris Leben has revealed he is "grateful to be alive" after a serious battle with Covid.
The 41-year-old, who was hospitalised earlier this month, posted a lengthy video on social media from his hospital bed detailing the health struggles he has been going through.
Speaking on Instagram, he said: "What took the most damage, for sure, is my lungs.
"They did say 100 percent of my lungs are damaged, but they also said 100 percent recovery is possible, and I think that’s what’s going to happen.
"It’s going to take some time, start out slow, but I’m still alive, man. I’m still here. And for that, I’m so grateful.
"The fact that I get to fight my way back to 100 percent health, that I have that opportunity, is such a blessing.
"When you’re where I was, and you’re where I’m at now, I’ll tell you what, you count everything as a blessing."
Leben also shared a picture of his young son giving him a hug in hospital.

And he added the caption: "The longest I’ve ever gone without seeing my son. It was a big hug. ??."
In the video, he then went on to add: "I wouldn’t wish it on anybody.
"But I learned a lot from this experience, and I’ll be back 100 percent.
"It might take a year, but at least I’m alive, so what’s a year? If I was dead, I wouldn’t have the opportunity.”
Leben, who retired from combat sports last year, boasts a professional MMA record of 22 victories and 12 defeats.
Back in 2006, he fought in a UFC middleweight title eliminator against Anderson Silva but lost by first round knockout.
