Amazon slashes price of Prime membership to £59 ahead of Prime Day deals

AMAZON shoppers are in luck because the e-commerce giant has slashed the price of its Prime membership to £59 a year, down from £79.

This comes just ahead of Amazon Prime day, which will see discounts for members only over two days next week.

Starting on July 15, deals will be continuously released for 48 hours on everything from smart home, kitchen, grocery, toys, furniture, fashion and outdoor items.

These deals will have limited quantities, which means once they're gone they're gone – so you need to get in quick to nab them.

The £20 discount on the Amazon Prime membership is available to all new customers and those switching from monthly to annual plans.

Just keep in mind that after your first year, your Prime membership will increase to £79 a year unless you cancel it beforehand.

Our tips for finding the best deals this Amazon Prime Day

IT might be tempting to dive in and snap up LOADS of items, but here’s how you can guarantee you’re getting a good deal on Amazon.

PREPARE Research the items you want to buy and find out the cheapest price. Websites like PriceSpy, PriceHistory and CamelCamelCamel will give you historical data on prices so you can see how much you should pay. You can also set up price alerts to let you know when the cost drops.

CHECK CAREFULLY Use FakeSpot to check whether the item is genuine or not. The site scans the reviews to see if they're "reliable" or not so you can decide whther you trust the seller.

TRIAL IT FIRST Sign up to the 30 day Amazon Prime trial to take advantage of the Lightning Deals and free delivery. But remember to cancel the subscription before the trial is up or you'll be charged the full £79.

SHOP NOW TO SAVE TIME Put the items you want in your basket ahead of Black Friday so that when the deals drop on November 24, all you'll have to do is pay.

The offer is available to those who sign up or switch before July 16.

Sadly, Amazon told The Sun that existing customers won't be eligible for a £20 refund.

Included in the annual Amazon Prime membership is unlimited one-day delivery on millions of items, exclusive series on Prime Video as well as the ability to stream and download movies and TV shows, Prime Music and access to eBooks.

Another bonus is being granted access to live music events.

If you're not sure it's something for you, you can try Prime for free by signing up to a 30-day trial here.

To kick off Prime Day, a selection of early deals have gone live on Amazon.co.uk/primeday, and more will be announced in the run up to Prime Day.

Last month, the retailer revealed the newest version of its Prime Air delivery drone – which now shuttles packages through the air "silently".

And last week, Amazon announced plans to create 2,000 jobs in the UK this year – here's how to apply.
