Ukraine war LATEST: Vladimir Putin 'ready to ARM' allies as despot forms pact against West with nuke-loving North Korea | The Sun
VLADIMIR Putin's senior officials have "approached the West to help end the Ukraine war" according to sensational claims.
A highly placed Kremlin official has revealed Putin's government is "panicked" over the direction of the brutal invasion in a report that has reached Western intelligence.
As reported by the Mirror, it is believed senior officers and officials have been spooked by heavy-hitting sanctions, a failing economy and increased risks such as fighting around the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant.
According to the newspaper, a document reads: “A representative of Putin’s inner-circle sent a signal to the West about the desire to negotiate. The mood of the Kremlin elite is panic.”
And last night, a senior Ukrainian diplomatic source told the Daily Mirror: “If someone close to Putin has made overtures already it would not come as a surprise.
“It is often the case as happened in the closing stages of the Second World War that officials on a side concerned about their future make approaches to ensure it.
“Many of the Kremlin ‘elite’ are familiar with life in the West, have had children at Western universities and lived elsewhere.
“They know there is a good life to be had away from Putin’s grasp but so far they have not done anything about it as they are too terrified of what will happen to them."
It comes as it was announced by Ukraine's Ministry of Defence that "one-fifth" of Russian armed forces units were now "destroyed".
And Ukraine also says the deranged dictator has left 20,000 Russian troops stranded in a tactical withdrawal after Kyiv blew up key bridges in the country's southern city of Kherson.
The soldiers are believed to be cut off from their battalion and key supply lines following a Ukrainian missile strike in the region overnight.

Ministry of Defence provides update on Ukraine conflict
The British MoD has provided Brits with a new batch of information regarding Russia’s brutal invasion of Ukraine.
The update said: “On 11 August 2022, Russian media reported that Denis Pushilin, head of the so-called Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), had said that the date of a referendum on the DPR joining Russia will be announced after the DPR’s ‘complete liberation’.
“Previously, in June 2022, investigative journalists published evidence of a DPR planning strategy for running such a referendum and for ensuring that at least 70 per cent of votes were in favour of joining Russia.
“It is likely that Russia is in the advanced planning stages to hold a referendum, though it is unclear if the final decision to go ahead with a vote has yet been taken.
“The Kremlin will likely see the military’s failure to occupy the entirety of Donetsk Oblast thus far as a setback for its maximalist objectives in Ukraine.”

Putin ‘leaves 20,000 of his soldiers stranded’ as Ukraine takes key tactical bridge
The brutal dictator has left 20,000 Russian troops stranded in a tactical withdrawal after Kyiv blew up key bridges in the country's southern city of Kherson, a Ukrainian official has claimed.
According to Vitaly Kim, governor of Mykolaiv district, an entire command of Mad Vlad's troops has bailed from the west bank of the Dnipro river in southern Ukraine to escape a counterattack by President Zelensky's men.
Posting on his Telegram channel, Kim said he "felt just a bit sorry – but not much – for the stupid orcs" left abandoned on the right bank of the Dnipro, using a derogative term for Russian soldiers.
"All of the commanders are moving to the other side."

NZ to deploy 120 troops to Britain to train Ukrainian troops
New Zealand is sending 120 military personnel to Britain to help train Ukrainians in front-line combat, the government said on Monday.
The deployment will enable two infantry training teams to equip Ukrainian personnel with the core skills to be effective in combat, including weapon handling, combat first aid, operational law and other skills.
The training of about 800 Ukrainian soldiers will be conducted exclusively at one of four locations in Britain, and New Zealand defence personnel will not travel to Ukraine, the government said in a statement.
“We have been clear that a blatant attack on a country’s sovereignty and the subsequent loss of innocent lives is wrong and intolerable. Our condemnation will continue to extend beyond words and include critical support,” Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern told a news conference to announce the deployment.
She stressed that New Zealand troops have not and would not engage in combat in Ukraine.
Thirty New Zealand defence personnel completed a deployment in May to train Ukrainian military personnel in operating artillery.
The training deployments are part of a series of actions in response to Russia’s Feb. 24 invasion of its southern neighbour that have included more than NZ$40 million ($25.70 million)in financial support and the sanctioning of 840 individuals and entities.

Russia to hold independence referendum in Donetsk
According to the British Ministry of Defence, Russia are planning to hold a independence referendum in the coming months, in partnership with the so-called Donetsk People's Republic.

This has been seen as a response to Russia's military failure in the area, as their forces continue to struggle against Ukrainian troops.
