Frankie Essex pays eye-watering £1,000 a month to heat home amid cost of living crisis
As Britain continues to battle the rising costs of living, Frankie Essex – who is a proud mum to twins Logan and Luella – has shared that she spends an eye watering £1,000 a month on her energy bills.
According to the Office of National Statistics, last year saw a 66.7% increase in electricity prices and a staggering 129.4% increase in gas.
Frankie revealed how her family has been impacted in her latest OK! column, where she also discussed why her first Mother's Day is a bittersweet event.
The former TOWIE star wrote: "I usually put the heating on at night just before the babies go to bed, but recently I haven’t been.
She continued: "Apparently it can get to almost 18°C in the babies’ room and they have their little sleeping bags, so I don't think they’ve been cold."
“I’ve only been putting it on in the morning because the twins obviously wake up early and it’s cold but, I’m not going to lie, I can’t wait to turn it off. It’s so expensive.
“My nan’s little house costs about £400 to heat and ours is £1,000. We’ve only had four radiators working as well. That’s just our house too – imagine having a big mansion. It must be thousands. It’s daylight robbery.”
In a bid to try and tackle the increasing prices, Chancellor of the Exchequer Jeremy Hunt revealed that, as part of his Spring 2023 Budget, that they’re delaying the planned rise to the Energy Price Guarantee (EPG).
The politician also announced new childcare plans that will see working parents being given 15 hours free childcare for children aged nine months upwards – starting from September 2024.
This will later increase to 30 hours free child care in September 2025.
“Even though the new childcare plans announced as part of the Spring Budget won’t benefit us yet because of Logan and Luella’s age when it’s implemented, it’s still a good thing to bring in,” Frankie said of the planned changes.
“It’s been really hard for parents. I met a girl the other day and we were talking about nurseries and I asked where she sent her two young kids to, and she told me spends £1,700 a month on it. I just thought… Wow, that’s more than people’s rent. It’s disgusting."
"It’ll make a big difference for us because I had planned on just keeping the twins at home, but it’s important for them to mix with other children. Before this, financially, I don’t think we could have sent them to nursery.
"15 hours for free wasn't enough for two babies.”
