Punters blown away by rocket two-year-old set to take Royal Ascot by storm | The Sun
PUNTERS were sent into a frenzy when Elite Status produced a jaw-dropping turn of foot to win at Sandown.
Costing a huge 325,000 guineas as a yearling, he looks destined for the top level, and Royal Ascot could be next on the agenda.
Elite Status was an impressive winner on debut at Doncaster and was sent off 5-2 favourite to back that up in the National Stakes.
Favourite backers didn't have a moment's worry as when Clifford Lee asked for more, Elite Status delivered a power-packed finish.
He surged clear in a matter of strides and after that initial burst of pace, he just kept going further clear under a hand ride.
His trainer Karl Burke said his horse "wasn't fully wound up" after the race, which makes his five-length demolition job all the more frightening.
A son of Havana Grey, who won the same race in 2017, Burke believes Elite Status could be even better.
Burke said: "No disrespect to Havana Grey as a racehorse but this fella has the potential to be a much better racehorse.
“He is an incredibly exciting horse and I would like to think he can go to the very top.”
It wasn't just Burke who was excited, as punters on Twitter were sent into a frenzy.
