IF you're hoping to welcome a dog into your home but are not sure where to start when it comes to dog breeds, then look no further.

Adam Christman, a veterinarian from the US, revealed the five dog breeds that are known for being the most "needy," based on "veterinary visits, insurance claims and breed predisposition."

First up, he starts with the Dachshund.

"These napoleon complex dogs suffer from Intervertebral Disc Disease," he points out, in the post shared to TikTok.

He then moves onto the Great Dane, which he notes is a "beautiful family dog."

But despite being "prone to stealing your heart," he warns: "They eat a lot of food and are also prone to cardiac disease and cancers."

Next up, Dr Christman discusses the Labrador Retriever, which he brands a total "goofball."

"Like the Great Dane they can also have orthopaedic issues issues such as tearing their cruciate ligaments," he says.

Not stopping there, the dog expert explains why the Chihuahua is also on the list of neediest dog breeds.

"If this dog breed could speak it'd do this…'pick me up, pick me up, pick me up…actually I've changed my mind, I want to go in the stroller,' he jokes.

And last but not least, is the French Bulldog.

"They've got wrinkled and their noses can be stenotic, they can have neck problems, back problems heart problems, knee issues, skin…but we love them so much," he says.

The dog whizz adds: "Frenchies are so needy and crave attention all the time."

It wasn't long before the post went viral, racking up over 86k view and several comments, with pet owners up and down the country all chiming in to offer their opinions.

"You forgot the DOBERMAN! Velcro dogs!!" wrote one.

A second penned: "My Boston Terrier! Sweet as can be but wowzers expensive lol. I wouldn’t trade him for the world! He is my heart."

A third commented: "English Bulldog has to be the top ten list."

Meanwhile, a fourth noted: "We’ve spent thousands on our Frenchie, but I wouldn’t have any other breed."
