Hollyoaks star teases John Paul’s reunion with rapist Finn O’Connor amid return
Hollyoaks will air two big village returns in the coming months, with John Paul McQueen and Finn O’Connor making their comebacks this year.
Keith Rice has already reprised his role as Sinead O’Connor’s brother in recent episodes but will make a permanent return soon.
He’s been in prison since 2015, after he raped his teacher John Paul and attempted to rape another teacher, Nancy Osborne.
Now, he’s due to be released from prison, while it’s yet to be seen whether he will settle back into life in Hollyoaks.
While Nancy is still living in the village, John Paul actually departed in 2017, but will soon be back.
This will be the first time both of Finn’s victims will come face-to-face with him, other than prison visits.
Now, actor Keith has teased the big reunion and his surprise to learn actor James Sutton was reprising his role.
He explained: “Oh my god. I wasn’t expecting that. I can’t even find words to describe how much of a help for me James was throughout the storyline we had together.
“He committed everything to the storyline. I can’t wait to work with him again.”
On what viewers can expect from the plot, Keith added: “I’ve always felt that there is so much to explore with a return for Finn. You forget sometimes how many people in the village Finn’s crimes would have affected, how could he possibly be accepted back?
“Not only that, but how can someone who has done what Finn has done, find their place in society again? As an actor approaching my character I have to humanise him and each day for Finn is a day of not being accepted not finding a place in society. How do his family accept him?
“Do they really accept him? How can Finn ever have a relationship again? So much to be explored.”
Keith also promised fireworks for Finn and some of John Paul’s family once he’s released, especially with Nana McQueen and Sally.
Hollyoaks airs weeknights at 6:30pm on Channel 4, with the next episode at 7pm on E4.
