Corries Maureen Lipman goes public with new man 2 years on from partners death

Following the death of her longterm partner two years ago, Dame Maureen Lipman has revealed she's found love again and is dating a new man.

The Coronation Street actress, 77, who portrays Evelyn Plummer in the hit ITV soap, is set to attend the National Television Awards next week with her mystery "gentleman friend", whose name is David.

Speaking about the upcoming awards bash in a new interview with the Sunday Express, Dame Maureen said: “I’m going with my gentleman friend David – it’s a baptism of fire for him. The most important thing is that I find a dress.”

She described her new beau as "very nice", adding: “It’s a gift for all concerned. It’s a gift and he’s been very nice. I’ve met some nice men in my life, some really interesting men, and we will see where it goes.”

Maureen was in a relationship with computer expert Guido Castro from 2008 until his death in January 2021. Guido, who suffered from Parkinson's Disease, passed away at the age of 84 after contracting coronavirus.

Prior to her romance with Guido, Maureen was married to dramatist Jack Rosenthal from 1974 until his death in 2004 from bone cancer. The couple share two children, Amy and Adam, who are both writers.

Maureen has been nominated for the Best Serial Drama Performance at this year's NTAs, which will take place at London's O2 Arena on Tuesday 5 September.

The actress has tough competition however, with fellow Coronation Street Charlotte Jordan, 28, who plays Daisy Midgeley in the soap, also being nominated for the same award, as well as EastEnders star Danielle Harold, who played Lola Pearce-Brown in the BBC One soap, and Dominic Brunt, who plays Paddy Kirk in Emmerdale.

Maureen revealed she's been practising her "brave face" to make sure she's prepared for losing out on the Best Serial Drama Performance award.

“It’s time for a new face really, isn’t it? I’m a good enough actress to put on a brave face when someone else’s name is called," the Celebrity Gogglebox star said.

Maureen has won a number of awards for her acting skills over the years, with her role in Coronation Street bagging her several gongs over recent years.

She won the Best Newcomer award at The Inside Soap Awards in 2019 and in 2023 she took home the award for Best Comedy Performance at the British Soap Awards.
