Major character returns for a funeral after death tragedy in Emmerdale
Charles Anderson (Kevin Mathurin) left Emmerdale recently harbouring a terrible secret about his father Victor (Eddie Osei)’s death.
Victor was found dead in the church after the brain aneurysm that he’d been diagnosed with claimed his life. But the reason he was in the church was that he’d fled after Manpreet (Rebecca Sarker)’s missing necklace was found in his pocket and Manpreet threatened to call the police.
Not long out of prison, Victor knew that he’d be sent back if he was found guilty of any wrongdoing and he had no way to prove that, on this occasion, he was completely innocent.
Since Victor came out of prison the relationship between him and Charles had been fraught, and over the weeks viewers got to know the reasons why, which stemmed from some horrific incidents in Victor’s childhood. Charles and his mum Claudette (Flo Wilson) often lived in fear of what kind of trouble Victor’s criminal behaviour would bring to their door next. On the worst occasion Claudette was held hostage by some of Victor’s associates and Charles was always haunted by what might have happened to her as he frantically searched the local pubs for his dad.

So when Victor started winning his way back into Claudette’s affections, Charles was not ready to forgive or forget and swore that he’d get rid of Victor.
He planted the necklace in his father’s pocket and it’s this detail of Victor’s death that he hasn’t been able to tell Claudette, although it hurts him to know that she now believes she was a fool to trust her husband again.
Claudette was recently upset to discover that her son had gone away on a retreat and hadn’t even made a start with planning his father’s funeral. So in upcoming episodes Manpreet and Ethan (Emile John) decide to help the grieving Claudette with this and Manpreet and Claudette share some moments of closeness – although Manpreet is aware of what Charles did.
Manpreet calls Charles and begs him to return to the village and he does, determined this time to tell his mother the truth. But when Claudette starts to speak warmly about him, Charles can’t bear to upset her by telling her about planting the necklace.
Haunted, he goes to the Woolpack to drown his sorrows and there he runs into Tom King (James Chase). The two men get into an argument and Charles once again shows that he has a violent side himself when he pins Tom to the bar.
It’s only the arrival of Charles’s family that snaps him out of his rage and he releases Tom and rushes out. Manpreet follows, and knowing what’s behind his anguish she urges him to tell Claudette the truth and face the consequences.
Will she persuade him to talk to his mum?
