Dax Shepard Reveals He Gained Around 24 Pounds of Muscle During Quarantine
Plenty of people have struggled to stick to their fitness goals over the last year and a half of on-and-off-again quarantine, due to gyms closing, a lack of workout equipment at home, and a general inclination towards snacking on the sofa. Others, like Dax Shepard, have come out of lockdown more swole than ever.
The actor and comedian wowed his fans last month when he posted a Father’s Day workout photo with some of his fellow dads, showing off his jacked, vascular arms. In the latest episode of his podcast Armchair Expert, Shepard opened up about his recent transformation with guests Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis, who compared his new physique to that of cartoon action hero He-Man.
“In quarantine, I said to Kristen [Bell], ‘I’ve been waiting for 10 years for Marvel to call so that I’d have an excuse to get huge,'” he said. “And they’re not gonna call. That ship sailed. I’m 46, they’re not gonna call. So I just have to do it for my own amusement.”
He then revealed that he has been able to pack on an impressive 24 pounds of muscle, bringing his weight up to 210 pounds, through a rigorous routine that involves training six days a week. He jokingly added that in addition to lifting heavy and getting into protein shakes, “testosterone injections” also played a part in his bulk. “I spent my whole life as a medium boy,” he said, “and now I’m a big boy and I like it.
Shepard, who is sober, also stated that his fitness regime has helped him psychologically as well as physically in the aftermath of his relapse last year, and that he is very happy with the way he both looks and feels right now. “Mentally, I love it because it makes me far more on fire to be alive,” he said. “I was depressed after CHIPS. I was literally retiring, that was the plan, I’m out… All of a sudden I was on fire to work. … This is the version I enjoy.”
