Here’s How Live Tinted Founder Deepica Mutyala Detoxes From Her Day
No stranger to pulling work-related all-nighters, Deepica Mutyala, founder and CEO of the inclusive beauty line Live Tinted, and creator of the viral Huestick, has undergone a change of pace since moving back home to Texas from L.A. “I definitely have been a night owl my whole life, but the pandemic has shifted my entire life holistically, and my nighttime lifestyle, too,” Mutyala says.
Now, instead of working through the midnight hours, she powers down purposely to take in nightly sunsets and taking a walk outside whenever she can. While her evenings used to be packed with beauty industry events, she now can take a breather and watch a show—yes, she’s also binge-watching The Crown—or have a glass of wine and cook herself a nice vegan dinner (or all of the above!). Basically, it’s about making sure her nights are not filled with work-related things (and that means not testing a million skincare products, because that makes her think too much about her job), says Mutyala.

Every day isn’t the same, of course. “The new routine is no routine,” Mutyala admits. Some nights, it’s like she can barely take her makeup off before crashing. And she’s not alone in that (the pandemic fatigue is real). Other occasions, like a nice #selfcareSunday, are for a luxurious bath, a candle, face mask, and the whole nine yards.
Check out Deepica’s more serene evening routine, and her top beauty and skincare go-to products, below.
She tries to close her laptop around 6 p.m.
“I try to stop working at this point. After becoming an entrepreneur, I’d sometimes go until 4 a.m. if I had to. I’ve had to redefine work-life balance. I’ve been using the early part of morning and later part of evening to not be about work. I’m not fully there yet, but it’s a work in progress.”
Each night, she takes an evening stroll to clear her mind.
“I go on a daily sunset walk with my dad, especially in the summer. It’s not just about exercise, but a way to focus on how I feel mentally even more than physically. After that we make dinner: We like to have a glass of wine and experiment in the kitchen. It’s been interesting for my dad, who’s learning to cook for the first time. I’m recently eating vegan again, so we’ve explored vegan curries, with ingredients like fresh eggplants from my backyard.”

Finally, she has time to Netflix again.
“Living in New York and then L.A., TV and movie-watching were not part of my life. I was at social events every night. I needed to grind and hustle, but now I recognize that I want to spend my hours doing things that fulfill my soul. During quarantine, I’ve binged and loved The Undoing on HBO, and Away and The Crown on Netflix.”
Since she wears minimal makeup these days, she doesn’t double cleanse.
“Now I have a shorter makeup removal routine. I’m typically not double cleansing, because I only did that when I was wearing more makeup daily. I would have individual lashes on, and layers of eyeshadow and powder. Now, I just wear my Hue Stick, brow gel, and mascara and I’m good to go.”
Her skincare routine is super streamlined.
“A super-involved regimen doesn’t really soothe me. Maybe because trying on beauty products feels like part of my job, and makes me think of work, so I’m not as relaxed. So I keep it simple with my go-to Tatcha cleansing oil followed by Ranavat’s toning mist. It’s a brand with Indian founders and is all about Ayurvedic skincare; the jasmine scent reminds me of my family life. I also apply Estée Lauder’s Advanced Night Repair serum. I try a million other serums, but this one is a safe bet for me.
Then, I usually end with my holy grail product: Dr. Jart+ Ceramidin Cream. I’ve been using it since before Dr. Jart was on the map. I’m loving it because it’s the perfect amount of thickness for day and night.”
On Sunday nights, she has time for a bath to rejuvenate.
“My Sunday night routine involves doing a bath with some bath bombs and calming music or an audiobook, lighting a candle, winding down, and maybe wearing a face mask (I love the Summer Fridays Jet lag mask).”
“After that typically use a body oil all over. We have this face and body product called Live Tinted Hueglow, that really is a serum, with a botanical blend extract. I don’t typically take care of my body skin as much as my face, but it feels so nourishing when I do.”
Before bedtime, she takes a quick last peek at her phone.
“When I’m ready for bed, I stop looking at Instagram. I do check my texts and any other personal life stuff, but then I put my phone out of sight and use it for audio only for my meditation app, so that my brain can shut off.”

She needs some white noise to truly wind down.
“My little nephew has a white noise machine that lulls me when I visit him. A baby version of a sleep machine isn’t socially acceptable for a 31-year-old, but the Calm app is. It puts me right out.”
