BBC Radio 1 descends into chaos as it’s pulled OFF AIR leaving fans ‘sat in silence’ following host Greg James’ blunder
BBC Radio One descended into chaos on Friday as it was pulled off air for five minutes after a blunder by host Greg James.
The radio host, 37, was taking part in the Giant DJ Hunt, in which he had to track down Radio 1 presenters who had gone into hiding.
The final DJ Greg had to locate was Mollie King, 36, with the former Saturday’s singer sailing just off the Isle of Wight.
Greg dashed out on a boat to find her, however, health and safety forms stalled him and he ended up completely missing the midday deadline.
The station then cut off as the clock struck 12pm, leaving listeners stunned as they sat in silence.
Oh dear! BBC Radio One descended into chaos on Friday as it was pulled off air for five minutes after a blunder by host Greg James
Challenge: The radio host, 37, was taking part in the Giant DJ Hunt, in which he had to track down Radio 1 presenters who had gone into hiding
Shortly after Radio One had gone off air, the broadcaster confirmed things on Twitter, while also sharing a video of Greg’s gobsmacked reaction after he missed the deadline.
The presenter was seen with his hand over his mouth as he posed alongside Mollie, who he eventually reunited with at sea – albeit too late.
Speaking after the drama as he caught up with Mollie, Greg said: ‘I’m really in shock.
‘I’ve done a lot of these stupid things and I am in shock and in awe of what [Mollie] has managed to pull off. I’m amazed we’ve managed to turn the radio station off.’
He added to her: ‘And you were hiding on a little boat?’ to which she replied: ‘All along, just metres from you, Greg. Just hiding on a tiny boat.’
She then asked: ‘Will you ever speak to me again after this?’, with Greg quipping: ‘I don’t know. You keep messing with me and there’s going to be really bad revenge at some point.’
Five minutes after the bizarre break in broadcasting, Greg was heard back on air, asking: ‘We are back on now… I think?’
Fans were quick to react to the shock turn of events on Twitter, with one writing: ‘Just sat here at work in silence right now.’

A third person’s children were left upset by the radio break as they wrote: ‘Cheers kids crying.’
With a fourth adding: ‘That silence was deafening.’
Ahead of the challenge, Greg was given instructions on what to expect, with him being informed that his fellow DJs could be ‘anywhere’ in ‘any place’.
He was told: ‘Every Radio 1 DJ except you is in hiding.
‘You’ll have no hope of finding them on your own, but there are millions of Radio 1 listeners who might just stumble upon them as they go about their days.
‘They could be hiding anywhere, anytime, any place. Greg, your job is to put Radio 1 back together, one presenter at a time.
‘When a DJ is found you will have to get them to a BBC studio.
What a day: Fans were quick to react to the shock turn of events on Twitter, with one writing: ‘Just sat here at work in silence right now’

Found: Ahead of the challenge, Greg was given instructions on what to expect, with him being informed that his fellow DJs could be ‘anywhere’ in ‘any place’
‘Right now you’re the only presenter on the station. You have 30 DJs to find, don’t take too long.
‘None of the DJ’s are in dangerous places! So you don’t need to go hunting through quarries, quicksand, abandoned buildings or treacherous swamps to find them.
‘If you think you know where a DJ is, don’t take things into your own hands.’
Listeners were then informed that if they wanted to help, they could text a special number, with Greg’s team then calling back if their assistance was needed.
