Can we please talk about how Rihanna is basically smashing maternity wear out of the park, transforming how to dress a baby bump?

The Work star, 33, is working it (sorry) in the wardrobe department, mere moments after revealing she is expecting her first baby with rapper partner A$AP Rocky, also 33.

After convincing us all we, too, need to be getting around in flared jeans that drag along the ground after sporting a pair in her first pregnancy reveal, she then introduced us to maternity lacing.

And now? Well now we’re all draping luxurious fur coats (yes, go faux, we know) over our bellies, pregnant or not, because it’s what Ri-Ri would want.

Heading to noshery Giorgio Baldi in Los Angeles on Wednesday eve, Rihanna stood out in a tie front crop top with a patchwork coat keeping her cosy, a trucker hat that is giving us some strong Von Dutch circa-2005 vibes, along with a pair of good, ol’ fashioned denim jeans – adding a pair of strapping heels with, get this, the strap on the outside of her trousers.

This woman is revolutionary, we tell you.

Rihanna and A$AP stunned fans as they announced they were expecting their first child with an incredible New York photoshoot last month, before the singer shared a sweet snap of herself wearing a football jersey as she gazed down at her bump.

In the groundbreaking shoot, the Umbrella singer is seen hitting the streets of New York in a bubblegum pink vintage Chanel puffer jacket and jeans, with her stomach on show and adorned with necklaces.

Her rapper beau, also 33, could be seen protectively placing his hands over hers at some points, as they stopped to share a sweet kiss.

The superstar is showing she is going to be no wallflower during the pregnancy, showing us all how there’s no one way for pregnant people to look or behave, with writer Rose Stokes recently pointing out: ‘For too long, depictions of pregnancy have been dominated by a very fixed idea of how the mother or birthing person should look or behave.

‘We so often expect pregnant women to be demure, to hide their bumps under modest cuts of clothing and to hide away, so to see Rihanna showing off her pregnant body in all its beauty and glory is such a breath of fresh air.

‘The reality is that pregnancy comes in all different shades, shapes and sizes, and the more we normalise this idea, the better the experience of growing a human will be for all involved.

‘This look is so powerful and upends any narrative we may have that a woman is in any way diminished by her pregnancy. There is no way to look or act in pregnancy, it is a natural part of our experience and doesn’t have to define us, as I think Rihanna has shown us all with this look.’

This will be the first child for both Rihanna and A$AP – real name Rakim Athelaston Mayers – with the pair first linked at the beginning of 2020.

They have known each other for years and worked together on a remix of her track, Cockiness, together, before growing closer over the last few years – keeping their relationship mainly behind closed doors ever since.
