Springwatch 2020 star Megan McCubbin, 25, has opened up about her experiences hosting the BBC show with her stepdad Chris Packham, 59. Speaking exclusively about their working relationship to Express.co.uk, the presenter and wildlife expert said: “Chris and I get on really well, we always have done.”

However, Megan explained the duo often approach their projects in “different ways”.

She added: “I met him when I was two and we got along instantly, so it’s really nice to be able to work together because we’re passionate about the same things and we come at it in different angles and different ways as well, so I think we complement each other quite well.

“It’s been really good fun getting to work with him a bit more over the last few months and it’s going to be fantastic to work with him on Springwatch as well.

“I’ve been up to the Springwatch and Autumnwatch sets and it’s been fantastic to see him work, but now to be part of the team is just great.”

The star also revealed Chris gave her a few tips before they hosted their first episode of Springwatch together.

Megan recalled: “He’s certainly been doing it for quite a while and he’s fantastic with all the technical stuff and the thing he keeps repeating to me is ‘content is king’, so that is one thing that Springwatch does really well.

“We’ve got some fantastic content coming up so he’s definitely very good, we come at it at such different angles.”

Megan admitted she prefers to have more time to prepare, whereas Chris tends to be “fantastic right off the bat”.

She continued: “He can kind of go into it and he won’t need as much preparation and he’ll just be fantastic right off the bat.

“For me, I like to take my time a little bit more and do a bit more research and make sure I’m really prepared.

“So we’ve got different ways and different angles, but together it works quite well.”

Zoologist Megan is the daughter of one of Chris’ previous partners, Jo, and the pair have been isolating together since the beginning of lockdown at his home in Hampshire’s New Forest, as Megan’s mother works for the NHS.

Although Megan’s mum and Chris separated when she was 12-years-old, she has remained close with her stepdad and has travelled alongside him on his wildlife trips.

Megan also shared her family worries during the COVID-19 pandemic after her grandad was admitted to hospital last month due to complications after an operation.

She admitted that although it was “the best place for him to be”, she felt “really worried” at the time because of the risk of COVID-19 infection in hospitals.

The presenter said: “My grandad, he’s just come out of hospital actually, he got admitted last week, not coronavirus, he had an operation a couple of years ago and it was complications from that.

“So he got admitted last week and of course it’s the best place for him to be, but of course with everything going on with corona it was a concern.

“Luckily they did an amazing job looking after him and he’s back home now, so of course, really worried about grandparents.”

She continued: “Every week Chris and I go out to do shopping for my nan and grandad and for his dad as well.

“His dad has got quite a lot of underlying health concerns so he’s had to really strictly isolate and he’s living by himself as well, which makes things quite difficult, so we go over once a week to bring him food and give him 15 minutes of company before we head off.”

Springwatch airs tonight at 8pm on BBC Two.
