Chrissy Teigen apologizes to Courtney Stodden for bullying tweets: ‘I am ashamed’
Chrissy Teigen is apologizing to Courtney Stodden after being called out by the reality TV personality for cyberbullying them as a teen.
During an interview with The Daily Beast that published Monday, Stodden – who rose to fame as the teen bride of actor Doug Hutchison, who was 51 at the time – opened up about tweets and private messages from Teigen.
“She wouldn’t just publicly tweet about wanting me to take ‘a dirt nap’ but would privately DM me and tell me to kill myself,” Stodden, 26, told the outlet. “Things like, ‘I can’t wait for you to die.'” TMZ and BuzzFeed collected some of the cookbook author’s past tweets to Stodden, dated 2011 and 2012.
The 35-year-old expressed regret for her actions toward Stodden in a Twitter thread Wednesday afternoon.
“Not a lot of people are lucky enough to be held accountable for all their past (expletive) in front of the entire world,” Teigen began. “I’m mortified and sad at who I used to be. I was an insecure, attention seeking troll. I am ashamed and completely embarrassed at my behavior but that…is nothing compared to how I made Courtney feel.”

“I have worked so hard to give you guys joy and be beloved and the feeling of letting you down is nearly unbearable, truly,” she continued. “These were not my only mistakes and surely won’t be my last as hard as I try but god I will try!!”
Teigen added that she tried to discuss the matter with Stodden privately, but also wanted to issue an apology the public was privy to, as they also saw her tweets.
“I’m so sorry, Courtney,” Teigen said, concluding her mea culpa. “I hope you can heal now knowing how deeply sorry I am. And I am so sorry I let you guys down. I will forever work on being better than I was 10 years ago, 1 year ago, 6 months ago.”
Teigen briefly quit Twitter in March, explaining at the time: “This no longer serves me as positively as it serves me negatively, and I think that’s the right time to call something.”

In an April interview with USA TODAY, Teigen said the web is “a brutal place,” even more so for women.
“It’s hard to just exist as a woman on the internet,” she said. “We’re just nitpicked and torn apart and it’s just brutal. And I think at the scale that some of us receive it at is just too much for any person to take. And so yeah … when the good outweighs the bad again, I will be there.”
