Giovanna Fletcher felt ‘like a failure’ after suffering miscarriage as newlywed
Giovanna Fletcher has bravely spoken about suffering from a miscarriage.
The actress, 35, has discussed how she lost a baby six-months after she married her childhood sweetheart Tom Fletcher in 2012 and says she felt like she 'had failed'.
The presenter reflected on the loss during a guest appearance on the Made by Mammas podcast and explained she had fertility issues due to suffering from PCOS (polycustic ovary syndrome) – which was diagnosed when she came off the contraception pill.
Giovanna, who is now mother to three kids – Buzz, Max and Buddy – told that she was six and a half weeks pregnant when she began bleeding which led to her getting in touch with her gynecologist.
She recalled: "I remember Tom going to a premiere and asking if I wanted to go and I said 'no, I am really not feeling great I have cramps and stuff', but again feeling like this is all part of it, this is amazing I am feeling things."
She continued: "Then he had a radio tour that weekend and I woke up in the morning to some blood and I just thought that is not good."
She then explained that she looked on Google but then decided to get in touch with her gynecologist who asked her to come and see him.
Giovanna added that Tom had a work commitment so she went alone to the appointment.
She detailed: "So he left and I can remember getting into the car and feeling so shaky and hearing Bob Marleys Every little thing is going to be alright playing on the radio.
"I don’t know, I think listening to that song I remember being on the way back from that journey and feeling like that song cheated me weirdly and that moment."
Revealing that she believes everything happens for a reason, she added: "Now I don’t, my whole thing is if that miscarriage had not happened then I wouldn’t have had Buzz and that would have never happened.
"But at that time I remember feeling that it had led me into a false sense of hope.
"I went and got scanned and there was nothing, so I had a complete miscarriage. I came out and Tom was thankful only around the corner and he came and gave me a hug in the car.
"I just remember feeling like I had completely failed us as that was my first experience of motherhood and it turned out I was really s*t at it."
Giovanni and Tom welcomed their eldest son Buzz Michelangelo in March 2014, with little Buddy arriving in February 2016 and their youngest son Max in August 2018.
The couple met at stage school and went on to marry in 2012.
