Gwyneth Paltrow Says Daughter Apple Has a "Sense of Entitlement That’s Beautiful"

Gwyneth Paltrow opened up about how empowered her 16-year-old daughter Apple Martin is, especially in the wake of social justice movements like #MeToo.

During the Adobe MAX conference on Wednesday, Paltrow was asked about female representation in entertainment.  "We’re laying the groundwork for the change," she replied. "I think the #MeToo Movement was a big part of that change. I think Black Lives Matter is part of that change. What we're saying collectively as a culture and a society is that we are done with that paradigm of patriarchy of white men. The patriarchy itself feels like it’s cracking and starting to embrace a much wider variety of voices and races and genders. By the time my daughter is in the workforce, those girls are not going to stand for it. When I see my daughter with her friends, they are so empowered."

She went on to talk about how she feels her daughter's generation seems to be more confident when it comes to dismantling patriarchal norms.  "They have, and I mean this word in the best possible way, a sense of 'entitlement' that’s beautiful. It’s not spoiled, [they] are here for what the boys are going to get too," Paltrow said. "I find it very uplifting and heartening that we all seem to be going in this direction together."

In September, Paltrow opened up about co-parenting with ex-husband Chris Martin. The two also share a son Moses who is 14. "It's like you're ending a marriage but you're still in a family. That's how it will be forever," Paltrow told Drew Barrymore during an appearance on Barrymore's talk show. "Some days it's not as good as it looks. We also have good days and bad days, but I think it's driving towards the same purpose of unity and love and what's best for [our kids]."
