Harry Redknapp: Jamie Redknapp ‘passed out’ during ‘difficult’ hospital visit to see dad
Harry Redknapp, 72, was involved in a deadly crash in 1990 which killed former West Ham player, Brian Tiller, and three Italians.
The I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! winner was on a minibus with Brian just south of Rome when a car collided with them.
On Piers Morgan’s Life Stories on ITV, Jamie, 45, who would have been 17 at the time, had tears in his eyes as he recalled the terrifying time in their lives.
Struggling to hold back his emotions, he said: ”He was in a coma for a few days.
It was a horrendous tragedy

“I didn’t like seeing him in that situation. It was difficult.”
Jamie’s mum, Sandra Redknapp, revealed: “When Jamie saw him, he passed out.”
The former footballer went on to add: “We were so proud to have him back, but he wasn’t able to manage for a while.
“That was hard for him. It was difficult time all around, which I don’t think a lot of people realised.”
“He didn’t even speak to us about it,” he said. “It was one of his best mates. It was awful.”
Harry told host Piers Morgan about the guilt he feels after the crash claimed the life of his best friend.
“We were about to get on the bus and I stopped to start talking to some Irish fans and Brian was saying ‘come on Harry, we’ve got to go’,” he recalled.
“I carried on talking. I often think to myself if I hadn’t carried on talking and got on the bus when they were calling me, we would have missed that.”
The ex-football manager said in a twist of fate, he should have been sitting on the minibus where Brian was killed.
He explained: ”I remember him saying ‘I’ve nicked your seat, you’re going to have to sit over there’, sort of thing.”
“It was a horrendous tragedy for me losing him and the three young kids in the other car.”
Also in the interview, Harry opened up on Jamie’s split from ex-wife, Louise Redknapp.
Speaking about their divorce, which was finalised in 2017, he divulged: “I was choked. Absolutely. I just never ever ever could see that happening.
“I thought they were getting married forever. They were such a lovely couple together.“
He continued: “It came completely as a shock, out of the blue. They were not a showbiz marriage if you like. Lou just did not want to be anywhere without Jamie.”
He admitted the divorce was “very sad” for himself and his wife Sandra but added Louise was happiest when she was with the kids and Jamie.
Harry said: “They were very, very down to earth the pair of them. And yeah me and Sandra it was a shock when it happened. Very sad.
“It’s difficult. No-one knows what goes on behind closed doors do they in life? So you don’t know. It is sad.”
Jamie and Louise ended their marriage after almost 20 years of marriage.
The couple have two sons together, Charley, 13, and Beau, nine.
