Holly Willoughby admits she was ‘terrified’ to host Dancing on Ice with Phillip Schofield

Holly Willoughby, 38, first co-hosted Dancing on Ice with Phillip Schofield, 57, back in 2006. However, the This Morning presenter recently admitted she was apprehensive about working with the star ahead of their first live show together.

During a Q&A at the launch of Dancing on Ice 2020, Holly revealed she would “cringe” if she watched their debut episode again, reports The Sun Online.

She explained: “It was such a blur. It was so huge. It was primetime and I was stood next to Phillip Schofield!

“It was terrifying. I can’t remember any of the show apart from getting through it. It was about getting through the links on autocue without messing up! It could have been so catastrophically bad.

“I haven’t watched it back for a long time. I must have watched it back at the time, over and over again. To watch it now, I’d probably cringe the whole way through it.”

Reflecting on her first episode, she continued: “I can remember exactly what I was wearing.

“I was wearing a pair of shoes that were black satin and they had crystals all over the shoes and I had seen Emma Bunton wearing them once and I’d said I had wanted those shoes. How weird is it?”

The TV personality went on to gush about how “proud” she is of the ITV reality show for featuring the first same-sex dance couple, Ian ‘H’ Watkins and Matt Evers.

Holly said: “I think what that symbolises and what that means on how far we’ve come. A primetime show has a same-sex couple skating together and why shouldn’t they?

“It should have been happening a long time ago. For that reason, I’m very proud of Dancing on Ice.”

Holly’s fellow presenter Phillip also spoke out about the move making history during an interview with The Sun Online.

The ITV favourite said: “What’s lovely about that is It’s a big deal this year, but then either next year when we or Strictly or whoever does it, then it won’t be.”

The presenter went on to suggest if Strictly Come Dancing includes same-sex partnerships on the show next year, it “won’t be as extraordinary”.

He added: “It can be second and it won’t be as extraordinary.

“It’s the dynamics of the performance, how they work together.”

Same-sex dancing duos aren’t the only new aspect of the upcoming series of Dancing on Ice, as Phillip and Holly introduced the latest member of the judging panel, John Barrowman, on the Christmas Special show recently.

Phillip couldn’t help but tease the former I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! star about his new hairstyle during the episode.

While discussing John’s new role on the show, Holly turned to her co-host and said: “Hey listen, you’ve got competition for the silver fox this year.”

Phillip exclaimed in response: “I know, he’s rocking it, look at that.”

However, the This Morning presenter then took a cheeky swipe at his silver haired rival, as he added: “Looks like a badger though.”

Fortunately, John saw the funny side of the comment and burst into laughter as Holly interjected: “But a hot one!”
