Former Top Gear host Jeremy Clarkson, 60, shocked the nation in 2011 when he was accused of having an affair while married to his second wife, Frances Cain, who he split from in 2014. Jeremy remained in a relationship with colleague Phillipa Sage until January 2017.
I was pretty sore afterwards because I couldn’t work with him anymore
Phillipa Sage
Doncaster-born Clarkson and Sage worked together while Top Gear was touring across the world in 2011.
Sage has claimed that since their breakup, she had suffered a breakdown, admitting that she believed she would be in a relationship with Clarkson “forever”.
She previously said: “We were all burned out and the stress of it all caused my worst breakdown ever.
“Truly the lowest point in my life. But it was to prove the glorious turning point.”
Now, in a new podcast, the events planner has revealed that she is still in contact with Clarkson.
Speaking on the Driven Chat Podcast, she said: “I think it was about seven years we were officially together.
“It was pretty intense and high speed.”
When probed on her current relationship with Clarkson, she added: “We are vaguely in touch, yeah, but I’m pretty bruised by it so I don’t get too involved.”
Addressing the end of their relationship, Sage continued: “It took a long time for me to get over it because you can’t escape.
“Especially because he’s all over the place!”
She went on to say: “It’s really nice actually, now I can enjoy watching The Grand Tour because yeah, I was pretty sore afterwards because I couldn’t work with him anymore.
“I’ve moved on, I enjoy watching them all, they still make me laugh.”
In her new book, Sage has detailed some of her memories from living on the road with Clarkson and fellow Top Gear hosts, James May and Richard Hammond.
Sage detailed the moment Clarkson and Hammond were on the road in New Zealand.
She said: “Jeremy Clarkson and Richard Hammond were staying at a secluded house on a private island in New Zealand, which came with its own beach and boat.
“But our naughty, hyperactive schoolboy-like divas weren’t entirely happy.”
Sage added: “They demanded that the board game ‘Risk’ was delivered to their hide-away as soon as possible.”
Addressing Clarkson and Hammond’s reported demand, she went on to write: “And so, a helicopter was sent from the capital city Auckland to fly in a board game where players use ‘diplomacy, conflict and conquest’ to win for the two Top Gear presenters.”
In her new memoir, Off-Road With Clarkson, Hammond and May, Sage detailed some of the group’s supposed boozy antics, which included a “girl throwing competition” and their “own version of the Italian Job car stunt”.
